When Does He Choose To Rape?

It is so depressing and enraging to see women being exploited in countless way, All day, all over the world. And India seems to lead the charts, which is even more depressing considering the fact that many Indians believe in goddesses, female gods and yet, and yet we abuse women. Before going into the heart of the problem, I would like you to watch the below video. Know Your Star is starting a campaign called Dwar – door for transforming the lives of women and to create awareness and expect at least small changes in the attitude of people, men and women alike. It is great to see people overcoming their anger and disappointment with men and coming up with  innovative and inspiring ideas to contribute to a cause. This is the first of a series of videos they are to release to 1. state the problem at hand 2. to offer us all with ideas that can change, at whatever possible level and magnitude, the way men treat women.

Actually, its funny people use the word  mankind but not womankind when they are collectively speaking about the entire race of humans. It is just one of many trivial things that the world has gotten used to believing in, where the womankind are trampled and ill-treated with a sense of authority. But such trivial things are only tip of the iceberg. Today, we are looking at incidents that shows the shocking, evil and the most cruelest of attitudes, and the magnitude of it, towards a gender we must all be thanking, for they carried us in their wombs for 9 long months and yet wipe away the pain calling it bliss. Mothers. Sisters. Wives. Daughters. Women.

The type of abuse and crimes against women are multitude and many of them are yet not globally recognized as abusive behaviors. Rape is only one of the horrendous crimes, there are thousands of women who fall victim to lust-driven men. You can understand the magnitude of lust prevalent in men when you look at cases of 4-year old and 5-year old girls being raped. Domestic violence is equally criminal, but it is one of the least reported forms of abuse women face in this world.

But I come to the most important point(from my perspective). Where does this all start? I mean, what leads to a man choosing to rape his friend/cousin/stranger? Is it a momentous lust? Or is it the kind of thing that is pent up in his perverted mind through this teenage and youth? Where does he find the switch to turn himself into a beast and feed on the mother gender for pleasure? And I have always said to myself, the teenage and youth. I am 21 myself and I really know what kind of talks boys have. How they comment(I prefer to refer to it as a verbal rape) about a girl passing by. It is really down to how us men look and treat women, even strangers. My hope after watching the video is that if people continue to make things like these, urging for change in our ways, we will one day look at men who respect and value every woman. But, I shouldn’t let optimism make mirages and empty dreams of a kind world where all mankind treats womankind with respect. The problem is a lot more complicated than what it looks like. I will try to come up stats and more ‘simple’ expressions of my emotions in further blogposts.

You too can write a blogpost on your website about women empowerment and the concerned issues and link it back to Know Your Star campaign page.

April Haiku Month, Day 26: Waterfalls

#2

waterfall beckons . . .

people are convinced it would cleanse them

even if they raped

~ ~ ~

Many of the believers in god blindly believe in things like these, that ‘are said to’cleanse their souls and wipe off all the sins they committed. Many ARE CONVINCED that they become good by taking a holy dip or doing a holy prayer or something. Let me tell you, these people are blind. Blinded by faith in the unknown and unseen, and blinded by lust for the material and mundane. These are the people who have no guilty conscience, or just a little may be. These people go to temples and offer huge amounts of money and gold and BELIEVE that their future is secure and that they have bribed their god enough to let them off any crimes and sins they committed. And god isn’t helping either, because they really seem to be getting away from what they deserve for everything they did. India is the biggest hypocrite on the world map. The world would be half a better place than it is now if these people started believing in undoing their wrongs, not ‘devote’ themselves t0 ‘god’ in reparation.

April Haiku Month, Day 14: Little Pig Gets A Visit

Image from the movie Charlotte’s Web

a countryside farm . . .
little pig ran up and down
visit from a cute girl

visit from a cute girl . . .
she brought a rainbow candy
pig threw a tantrum

pig threw a tantrum . . .
smiling, she gave away candy
little pig oinked with joy

little pig oinked with joy . . .
hopped as if it could fly, then
splash! fell in a puddle

splash! fell in a puddle . . .
pig quickly scrambled out of it
it wanted candy again

the girl stood still . . .
then burst out laughing loud, and
she fell in the puddle too

~ ~ ~

I asked a friend for a few prompt words and she wildly came up with pig-candy-water-silent. I was not going to write any haiku for today as I was tired. I don’t know, writing is tiring me easily these days. And I gave up writing for today when I remembered it was an open day, I simply did not think my mind was capable of imagining philosophical things, that which I usually write upon. But these innocent prompt words let me have a smooth ride! I enjoyed writing this!

Hurt Her Not – Haiku #18

forgive : i feel it is a tough word in general and a tough word for a haiku too.

so here’s my try :

” thou hast my lady,

hurt her not, forgive she may,

as lost love, i won’t “

~ ~ ~

i donno if people can get what i tried to tell, i would just say that this haiku’s fictional context is

” my love is with an other man, her only man (she never was mine, in fact), but i still love her, for eternity.

and i warn ( not in grudge, but in a concerned urge, for my lady) him, as she chose him, above me,

i warn him not to disappoint her or hurt her because i wouldn’t if i was him.

O’ love,

lost love.”

This post is an entry in Haiku Challenge for April 2012 at Haiku Heights. The prompt being “forgive”.

If Destiny Decides That I Be Alone (Poetry)

.

~ ~ ~

rush of emotions //
concern, love, care, anger, frustration //
too small a heart that is mine //
wants a shoulder to rest upon //
wants a hand to pat its back //
but all the emotions have made mine heart too hot //

click for high resolution image

that it is almost burning //
and everyone backed away //
forget hands patting my back //
i hardly hear anyone breathing close to me, distances as they are, grew //
and the one breath i hear is mine; one I hardly see any meaning in //
too harsh it would be, if i gave up //
too painful it is already, to carry on //

i said to myself,

” If destiny decides that I be alone, so be it. “

She Sells Shells – Haiku #24

.

.

dreams big and hopes high,

she sells sea shells on seashore,

buy one, help her smile

can’t get it right once, not once 😀 :O

Life And Wheels Moved On – Haiku #45

This post is submitted at Haiku Heights. The prompt is ‘mask’.

.

you see me not love (dear);
help comes; heals wounds; i wear mask
named humility.

~ ~ ~

far away you went;
still wondering who it was;
life and wheels moved on.

~ ~ ~

distance grew much now;
same humility hinders;
from seeking your love.

~ ~ ~

love is not to ask;
but to give away; like blood,
from mother to child.

~ ~ ~

hope filled eyes; i wait;
will your ever see through the mask;
forces act against.

~ ~ ~
( The below is the text from which i framed the haiku. I couldn’t put in everything in Haiku. So, read on if you like to. It’s long though, don’t say i din’t warn you. )

while he dared, i cared.

expressing all is never always right,
it only takes boldness.

to hold back expressions take a lot more,
of love, faith and hope;
in truth, it takes a herculean boldness, more than what it takes to express,
but none sees it, just because there was an absence of my expression,

so, if boldness weighs more than love, care, faith and hope,
then yes, i was a loser right from the first moment,
the moment when i chose to hold back,
knowing too well what it takes and what it gives me.

one day hardly goes by,
with this question not torturing my mind,
“don’t you see this yet?”,
yet and again, i hold back from asking this loud.

why, ask me “why?”,
i might just yet stay mum, for the answer i have for you will stump you.
so, instead i choose to see you hurt because of my silence, than because of my answer,
i choose to see you hurt less while i still have the option.

but as no question should go unanswered,
i would give you these words,

“let your heart be honest with your eyes and with itself”

now go,
the journey is yours to travel,
the answers are your to unravel.

the journey would still end at where i am,
the answers still leave a part of the question untouched,
“why did you stay silent when you had so much love?”,

that, my love, shall be answered after you complete the journey,
the reason for making you search for the answer yourself is to prepare you,
for the eventual leash of my held back love.

a little apprehension lingers deep down though,
time is a thin thread, that i am playing by,
i fear i might not radiate and transfer enough reason into you so that you don’t give up on the journey that i put you to,
i fear, time might crop doubts in your head,
and if you submit to them, you would be convinced that i was a fool,
and you would distance yourself from me.

but doesn’t truth always win, as told by the meandering bards,
that’s one gamble i took.

now we go to where this started,
what it took to take this gamble, that might leave me with nothing if it went wrong.

my love,

expressing all is never always right,
it only takes boldness.

to hold back expressions take a lot more,
of love, faith and hope;
in truth, it takes a herculean boldness, more than what it takes to express.

Oh wait,
didn’t i tell you that i would go along with you through the journey, masked in a cloak of invisibility?
oh sure i din’t, because the quest for truth is one you should not skip,
though i knew it would impress you if i told i was coming along,
and it would raise my stature up a notch at your heart,
but i choose to hide my presence and lose a chance to have you love me.
but this journey is not about me, this is about you,
and that along with my enormous care is reason enough for me to wear the cloak of invisibility, in humility,
and walk along.

Oh darn!
while he dared, i cared.

that’s all i need you to see.
that’s all i need you to learn.

Tides Of Fate

words of love i sent with the wind,
asked it to fly through a lushly meadow,
taking with it, along with my love,
the fragrance of daisies and roses.

i said, “go slow”,
for the wind would carry more scent,
for the scent would please her and give her weary heart a little peace,
for i thought she would see that i knew what she liked and needed. healing.

carry it did, the pleasant fragrance of eden,
when it did reach her,
the fragrance gave her wings,
and she flew away,
my words of love, forever buried hidden.

wind, o’ wind,
you have done nothing wrong,
don’t be distraught,
for it was she, or maybe it was me,
maybe it was me.

But now go,
be her silent guardian, forever now,
give those fragrances to her, always. heal her,
for it was always my priority,
self-pity will be second on list,
go now,
fly light and swift,
i will move to my abode of silence once more,
until the tides of fate change their course and return me my love.

Wings Need Rest, Soul Needs A Shoulder – Haiku #47

Hello there, all fellow writers and poets. Errr, do poets fall into the collective word “writers”? I surely lost a few things during this harsh void that i forced into my writing/blogging life.

~ ~ ~

tired of flight;

winged shoulders need rest;

lend yours, love.

~ ~ ~

I have written something after a very very very very long time. A moment something like, “I am back! ” . Or maybe, i should wait before i say that. So now, a bit of a forced “rewind” of what’s happened to me.

I haven’t been upto writing lately. And haven’t been reading anything either. I’ve been staying away from blogs, don’t know why. Holding back and Holding up things all the time.Seems like i am frozen and chained and forced to live in this trance. And when i question who was responsible, i stare at myself. My own empty eyes and face. I write well, given the very small word pool i take bath in. And i like reading, reading – fairy tales, philosophical anthologies and haiku. But all seem to not help me now, all of a sudden. A struggle it’s been, to fight with myself. One part goes reluctant on writing. One part goes reluctant on reading. And the world is shut out, as if someone pulled the blinds of the window. Or was it me? I am repeating the same emotion again. But in different words(rewind gone bad). What is happening? Is anybody there? Hello? And suddenly, a mirror pops up infront of me. Me staring at me and the me in the mirror says, “Aren’t you there?” (Sounds creepy, but i have grown a bit creepy).

Gladly submitted, after a painful long time, at Haiku Heights for the prompt word ‘ support ‘.

Humans And Other Animals – Haiku #46

Written for Three Worded Wednesday
prompts : Dampen, Keep, Tremble
i chose to write in Haiku .

—————————————————

once clouds grew angry;
roared and fired thunders of rage;
shrill trembles shook earth.

oceans nearby sang,
a similar song; harsh rains,
dampened rich harvests.

all treated equal;
humans, other animals;
nature keeps records.

hints look harsh;
put trust in nature;
our mother.

The Scarlet Bond

crimson bushes conjure spells;
hold me tender is their call;

spell bound;
reckless hands get the scarlet wrath;
tender hands get the scarlet fragrance;

i would say;
you could be a little more cautious (in life);
is the message you try to teach.

where from did you learn this art;
of filling heart;
with black and white;
in equal parts;

you spill black, when i finally am settling in the too bright white;
you paint white, when i eventually start seeing solace in the dark black;
why these unbearable swings of torment;
why not paint me scarlet once and for all;
so that,
i fly away with white wings,
into the black void,
breaking bond with the scarlet forever.

This poem is written for One Single Impression. The prompt for the week is ‘crimson’.
